Personnel Spotlight: Meet John Ferguson

John Ferguson
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, aka “The Electric City.” I now live in Honolulu with my four beautiful daughters. I hold a Bachelor of Science from Bloomsburg University and I am currently the Director of Business Development at simplicityHR by ALTRES. Prior to this role, I was a successful Human Resources consultant for nine years. I have also held positions as Branch Sales Manager and Deputy Executive Director at other companies.

Describe your role as Director of Business Development.
I manage a team of experienced HR Consultants and HR associates. Our goal is to ensure that prospects who become clients have everything they need to take advantage of HR outsourcing. It’s our duty to serve our clients and maintain a positive working relationship with them. Each prospective client is different and has a culture of their own. My favorite part of the job is learning more about each company and analyzing their unique needs for HR, risk and safety practices, workers’ compensation policies, temporary disability policies, employee benefits, and payroll processes in order to make their business more successful.

What makes simplicityHR different than the competition?
No other competitor can match our level of experience. We pioneered the business of HR outsourcing in Hawaii by being a leader and innovator in human resources administration for over 50 years. With a little over 200 employees providing HR support services to hundreds of companies on six islands, we also hold the title for Hawaii’s largest HR department. Another difference that sets us apart is the cutting-edge technology that we develop in-house. One of our greatest accomplishments is HR Symphony – a comprehensive and easy-to-use online human resources information system (HRIS) which makes business easier than ever with 24/7 access to employee information, benefits data, payroll reports, and HR documentation.

When you’re not busy overseeing all of that, what can we find you doing in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my family – you will often see us at the pool or playing at the park near our home. When I’m not spending time with them, I pretend to be a golfer.
